Jonathan Davies will be honoured to lead out Wales as captain for the first time today – but the centre is also hoping to make it a perfect birthday for his Dad in Rome as well.
The Round Two Guinness Six Nations clash between Wales and Italy at the Stadio Olimpico has seen Warren Gatland ring the changes in his Welsh side.
Ten players have been rotated out of the starting XV from the team that downed France on the opening weekend.
But British & Irish Lion Davies keeps his spot in midfield and will captain his country on the occasion of his 70th Test.
And with his Dad in the crowd celebrating his 60th birthday, it should be a day to remember in Rome.
“It is a huge honour,” said the 30-year-old centre.
“But any time you put on the red jersey of Wales, it is an honour in itself. There is added responsibility but it’s something I am looking forward to. I like to think I won’t be shouting or raving, but if it is needed it is needed.
“My dad was 60 on Tuesday, so my parents went from Paris through Switzerland on the Glacier Express.
“I think they have had a great week, mum and dad!
“They’ve been a massive part of where I am today, so to have my family and loved ones out here is great.”
Another Wales star with his Dad on the brain is flanker Thomas Young – set to make his Guinness Six Nations debut this weekend.
His father is former Wales skipper Dai Young – also Thomas’ boss at Wasps – and Young junior cannot wait to do his old man proud.
“He’s had his Dad’s head on this week and I think he was chuffed,” said the openside.
“He’s coming over and I think my parents and everyone will be proud.
“It’ll be a lovely occasion and something I’m looking forward to.”
“Everything he has done for me seems to working out,” said Young.
“He gave me the opportunity when things weren’t going well back home.
“I’m thankful for it and grateful to him and that’s one thing that will be at the back of my mind on the weekend.”
