Wing Sean Lamont has been named as Scotland’s player of the season.

The 26-year-old scored one try in the RBS 6 Nations campaign, in the 46-19 defeat to France in Paris, and also touched down in the 44-15 loss to Australia in November.

He landed the award ahead of captain Chris Paterson, Simon Taylor and Kelly Brown. Lamont, who was an ever present for Scotland this season and took his caps tally to 30, said: “It’s a nice surprise and I feel honoured to be recognised in this way.”

The Northampton Saints player succeeds Jason White, who won last year’s prize but missed this year’s RBS 6 Nations campaign due to a serious knee injury.
