Full-back Rory Lamont has been named Scotland’s outstanding player of the international season so far.

The 25-year-old Sale Sharks player was rewarded for his performances at the World Cup and in the warm-up games against Ireland and South Africa.

He topped a poll of journalists to win the Famous Grouse Award, following in the footsteps of brother Sean who claimed the sponsored player of the season prize for the 2006-07 campaign.

Lamont, who scored four tries over the course of the seven games, said: “I’m delighted to accept this award and I suppose you could say it’s nice to keep the silverware in the family.”

Dan Parks and Andrew Henderson were pipped to the award, although Parks was named Scotland’s players’ player of the World Cup 13 days ago.
