Leinster coach Michael Cheika has urged the Irish Rugby Football Union to appoint Munster boss Declan Kidney as the new Ireland coach.

The IRFU are currently looking for a successor to Eddie O’Sullivan, who resigned last month, and Cheika believes his Magners League rival is just the man for the job.

“I think that he (Declan Kidney) should get it,” said Cheika. “He’s Irish, he has gotten his team to the pinnacle of the game in Europe and they have been consistent performers in the Magners League.

“He’s breeding Irish players and I’ve got a good rapport with Declan. If/when he does get it I’m sure that he will do a good job.”
