Edinburgh coach Andy Robinson has high hopes for Scotland stand-off Phil Godman this season.

The mercurial playmaker returned to the international set-up during the summer Test series against Argentina having not played for Frank Hadden since the 2007 RBS 6 Nations.

It was a remarkable turnaround for a player who was not even in the Edinburgh side at the start of last season, David Blair being regularly handed the No. 10 shirt.

Former England coach Robinson said: “The way we have been developing our running game is partly due to the great skills that Phil has.

“He had a couple of setbacks last season – not being involved in the World Cup and finding himself out of the Edinburgh team.

“He had to pick himself up and decide what he really wanted to do. He challenged himself over the last three or four months of the season and played really well.”
