Former Scotland captain David Sole believes the return to fitness of Sean Lamont can help Frank Hadden’s side gain a welcome cutting edge.
Scotland were typically competitive in the 2008 RBS 6 Nations but were again lacking in the try-scoring department.
But Sole feels Lamont’s good form for Northampton following a serious injury as well as centre Ben Cairns’s return from a knee injury bodes well.
Both players are poised to appear for Scotland in the three Tests in November, which start with the All Blacks at Murrayfield.
Sole said: “Ben Cairns is a player who some are now suggesting may even be good enough for the Lions tour.
“And Sean Lamont has returned to full fitness so with a few more matches under his belt he may be back to his best for the national team.”
