Glasgow are poised to add Canada’s South-African-born winger Dth van der Merwe to their squad for next season.

Canucks coach Kieran Crowley revealed the 23-year-old back will play for the Warriors next term as he prepared his side to face Wales this weekend.

Van der Merwe can also play in the centre but is likely to play on the wing for Glasgow with Scotland centres Rob Dewey, Graeme Morrison and Max Evans in Sean Lineen’s squad.

The powerful unit was on loan with Saracens from the Canadian national side and was poised to sign a professional contract until he suffered the ankle injury that kept him out for more than a year.

Crowley said: “He’s an accomplished player. He’s going to be playing in Scotland next year for Glasgow. I do hope I have not given anything away there.”
