Former Scotland forward Roland Reid is one of five players released by Edinburgh – despite the club still being without a coach.
Reid joined Edinburgh – who are searching for a coach after Andy Robinson’s exit – from South African side Boland Cavaliers two years ago as a back-row forward with an impressive turn of pace.
But a dearth of numbers in Edinburgh’s backs saw him switch the wing, from where he made the majority of his 16 appearance for the club during an injury-plagued spell.
The South Africa-born star enjoyed a dramatic start to his Test career by scoring a try within a minute of his introduction to Scotland’s 43-20 victory against Tonga in November 2001.
He played in four matches on Scotland’s tour to New Zealand in 2000, scoring a try in the 24-7 win against Hawke’s Bay but failed to play his way into the Test team.
Reid, who qualified for Scotland through a father from Greenock, also played for Glasgow Caley, London Irish, Leeds Tykes and the Golden Lions in his homeland.
Centre Calum MacRae, hooker Steve Lawrie, prop Bruce McNeil and wing Marc Teague have all also left Edinburgh.
Lawrie has joined English side Doncaster Knights, where he will link up again with former Edinburgh coach Lyn Howells.
