French prop Julien Brugnaut is struggling to come to terms with the whirlwind change in his career after completing his move to Irish giants Munster.

The 27-year-old had been without a club since the end of last season after leaving French side Dax.

But he yesterday signed a one-year contract with the two-time European champions, with the option of another 12 months.

“I am living a dream,” he is quoted as telling French daily newspaper L’Equipe.

“My agent Miguel Fernandez warned me that Munster were interested. At the start of last week, he called me to say we were going up to Dublin to meet their directors. It was unbelievable.”

Brugnaut played twice for France in the 2008 RBS 6 Nations Championship but after making his debut, against Scotland, he struggled as a substitute against Ireland and was soon dumped by the selectors.

The former Montpellier and Bordeaux-Begles front-row forward focused on his club form but his spell at Dax ended in the summer.

“I gave up my contract with Dax in view of joining a top-six team in France and I find myself in a top-six team in Europe. I’m still having trouble believing it!” he added.

Brugnaut will become the first France international to play for Munster.
