Jim Hamilton has hailed new Scotland boss Andy Robinson as the “most knowledgable” coach he has ever worked under.

Former Leicester lock Hamilton joined the Robinson revolution at Edinburgh last year and was wowed by the attention to detail of the ex-England chief.

Hamilton now cannot wait to begin working with Robinson at international level as he prepares for the new season.

“He’s the most knowledgable coach, the most detailed coach I’ve ever worked under,” Hamilton said.

“He knows the game inside out; he could still play now.

“To have a guy in charge who knows the game inside out – more than you do as a player – that’s what you need.”

He added: “From a Scotland point of view, it’s fantastic to have someone of his calibre and experience.

“We’ve got a great bunch of players, a great bunch of staff, and someone like Andy can only be good for the game.”

Asked what Robinson would bring to the Scotland set-up, Hamilton said: “I think experience, having worked with top players at the top of the game.

“He’s worked with England, won the World Cup, so obviously he’s been there and done it. He’s worked with the British Lions and he worked with a pretty successful club at Bath.

“You’ve seen what he’s done with Edinburgh and I think he can take Scotland onto that next level.”
