The Ospreys are set to announce their captain for the new season with last season’s skipper Ryan Jones not guaranteed to retain the role.

The current Wales captain has endured a difficult six months in which the Welsh relinquished their RBS 6 Nations title to Ireland and  Jones missed out on original selection for the Lions tour of South Africa.

The 28-year-old was later called up as a replacement for the Lions but had to fly home due to concussion without seeing any action.

And Ospreys coach Sean Holley says they may decide to relieve some of the pressure on the back-row forward with a number of other candidates being considered.

“No [I don’t think the captaincy is a difficult decision]. I think it’s really easy. Any one of four, five, six candidates could step up and do it,” he told the BBC.

“What we’ve got to take into consideration is that we have a lot of people away for long periods.

“We’ve got to learn from Ryan having the added pressure of two jobs last year and maybe he could do it again.

“But we don’t really want to put that burden on him so we’ve got a decision to make and we’ll make it for next week.”
