Scotland coach Andy Robinson’s Six Nations preparations will be handed a boost this weekend with Edinburgh lock Jim Hamilton making his first appearance of the season.

Hamilton has been sidelined with tendonitis around the kneecap but is fit enough for a return to action as the Gunners look to overturn Glasgow’s 13 point advantage from their 1872 Cup first round clash last weekend.

The 27-year-old was knocking on the door for a starting berth last week but club officials decided the 23-cap lock should be given another week’s rest.

However Scotland joint captain Chris Cusiter was forced off with a head knock last week and Glasgow will leave it late before deciding on his fitness.

Edinburgh will also leave it until the 11th hour before making a decision on fellow Scotland skipper Mike Blair (ankle).

Fly-half Dan Parks was the star of the 1872 Cup first leg match kicking 20 points – a haul which made him the first player in Magners League history to clear 1,000 points – as Glasgow won 25-12.
