Wasps legend Lawrence Dallaglio believes the atmosphere at Adams Park on Saturday will help launch his former side into an Amlin Challenge Cup final.

Cardiff Blues travel to Adams Park for their semi-final having entered the competition at the quarter-final stage after failing to make the Heineken Cup knock-outs.

But the former England legend, who won both the Heineken Cup and the Parker Pen Challenge Cup – the former name of the Amlin Cup – with the London side is backing them to go all the way.

The 2003 World Cup winner said: “The Blues are not to be discounted, they are very strong, but you would fancy Wasps.

“It’s an opportunity for Paul Sackey and Danny Cipriani to leave the club at the end of the season with a trophy.

“Adams Park is not an easy place to come, there haven’t been many European matches lost there.”

While Wasps have been in the tournament from the beginning, the Blues were enjoying Heineken Cup rugby, being pipped to the knock-out stages by Toulouse despite winning four out of their six pool games.

This, and their quarter-final destruction of Newcastle, means Dallaglio is more than aware of their ability.

He added: “The Blues have a side that they have shown is capable of going away and not just winning but taking a team apart.

“They are full of quality players and have shown their calibre as a Heineken Cup team.”
