Colin Charvis has left his role as defence and forwards coach with the Newport Gwent Dragons.

The Dragons have endured a miserable start to the season, having already leaked 12 tries in four games to leave them languishing second-from-bottom of the Magners League.

The 37-year-old arrived at Rodney Parade as player-coach in 2006, but hung up his boots at the end of the 2008/2009 season to coach full time.

His successful playing career saw him win 94 caps for Wales and play in two tests for the British and Irish Lions in Australia in 2001.

Since retiring from playing, Charvis has carved out a successful television career with the BBC as well as his strong list of business interests.

Neither Charvis nor the club have commented on the departure, but the Sutton Coldfield-born forward will not travel to Italy with the team for their trip to league new-boys Treviso this weekend.
