Coach Andy Robinson is demanding consistency from his players after Scotland relied on a slice of luck to snatch victory against Samoa.

Ruaridh Jackson kicked a last-gasp penalty to ensure Scotland’s autumn internationals finished on a high note, a week after they downed world champions South Africa.

With the game locked at 16-16, Robinson sent on Mike Blair, Max Evans, Jim Hamilton, Moray Low and Jackson, and the replacements made an instant impact

But after raising their game to defeat the Springboks, Robinson warned his players they need to start consistently matching the high standards they have set themselves.

“We weren’t at the top of our game and we were lucky in the end to get away with it,” said Robinson.

“We had to work hard throughout and the Samoans played really well. I went up to every Samoan and said how unlucky they were to lose the game.

“But I am delighted that we were able to work out how to win. That’s what we’re here for, to win.

“The impact of the replacements was top drawer because we needed some momentum.

“We did a lot of good work when the bench were on and Ruaridh was behind a lot of it.

“I am happy but there is a lot of hard work that we have to do – it shows where we are as a team.

“There is a bit of inconsistency in our performance at the moment but we’ve got to get it right every time.”
