Revenge on Horgan’s mind

Wing Shane Horgan is intent of serving up an extra-large portion of revenge when Leinster lock horns against defending Heineken Cup champions Toulouse today.

Leinster entertain their French rivals at the Aviva Stadium this afternoon a year after the two sides met at the same stage of the competition when Toulouse prevailed before going on the defeat Biarritz in the final.

That saw Leinster, the 2009 Heineken Cup champions, end last season empty-handed and Horgan, who is part of a side that boasts six Irish international forwards, has revealed the wounds are yet to heal.

“Last season was trophy-less and that really hurt and that is still in the back of our minds,” said Horgan.

“We have the same desire as ever to win the competition and we would do anything to achieve it.

“The season has gone very well so far, but that means nothing and we have to go out and perform against Toulouse.

“We have got home advantage and of course you would take that every time but we still have to go out and play our rugby.”

French giants Toulouse are aiming for an unprecedented fifth European title, and are potentially heading for an 18th French domestic crown, currently top of the table in this year’s Top 14.

And Leinster centre Gordon D’Arcy is in no doubt as to the challenge that awaits.

“They’re the team that everybody wants to beat, year in year out. They’ve won the most trophies,” he said.

“We can’t look for any excuses; we’ll take them at face value and have to bring our ‘A’ game.

“We just need to worry about ourselves. I know myself, if I’m lucky to play, if I win my individual battle, then I can contribute to the team.

“Everyone needs to have that mindset and perform that little bit better than the guy you’re playing against.”
