Andy Robinson is hopeful a training session with the army will work wonders in New Zealand as he looks to see his players keep cool under pressure.

The Scotland camp enjoyed a break from the usual pre-World Cup training regime with a trip to the HQ2 Division of the Army’s base near Edinburgh.

The players and coaches swapped rugby balls for bomb disposal kits and rifles with Dan Parks proving he is more than just a sharp-eye with his kicking duties, proving most accurate on the range.

And after speaking with the soldiers about life in the army and on the battlefield, head coach Robinson is looking for the experience to rub off on his players when they kickstart their World Cup campaign.

“The players have been working hard on their fitness, conditioning and rugby skills,” Robinson said.

“But exercises like this give everyone an insight into the team-working that goes on in other walks of life from which we can often learn something as sportsmen and also keep things in perspective when we talk about being ‘under pressure’.”
