Ex-Wales winger Shane Williams believes teen sensation George North will shatter his international try-scoring record.

Williams, 34, made an emotional exit from the international stage earlier this month, scoring an injury-time try against Australia to take his tally to 60 from 91 appearances for Wales and the British & Irish Lions.

But North, despite his tender years, has already established himself as an international star as the Scarlets wing shone for Wales as they reached the World Cup semi-finals in New Zealand this year.

North already has nine international tries to his name and Williams believes he will surpass his record-breaking feats.

“George is the person who can take on the mantle,” Williams told Wales Online. “He has shown even though he is very young, he can adapt to the role of a mature player.

“He has got a lot of experience already but he also has got a lot of years ahead of him. So if there is anyone who can go on and be successful, it is George. And if he goes on and beat my record, I will wish him the best because he is a top person.”

“George is a fantastic player and you know you are going to have a very tough day at the office when you play against him.

“George is not only a big man, but also a clever rugby player.”
