Dan Lydiate’s performances in the RBS 6 Nations are rumoured to have caught the attention of Toulouse – but Newport Gwent Dragons head coach Darren Edwards insists he’ll be going nowhere.

The 24-year-old was named as the RBS 6 Nations Player of the Tournament for the role he played in helping Wales win the Grand Slam for the second time in four years.

According to French media, such performances have had four-time Heineken Cup winners Toulouse scrambling to acquire the Dragons flanker, whose contract doesn’t expire until next season.

However Edwards is adamant Lydiate won’t be jumping ship – revealing he has had absolutely no contact with anyone about a potential move away from Rodney Parade.

“I think all that Dan is concerned with is getting back to work with the Dragons and he is excited by the PRO12 game with Connacht on Friday,” said Edwards.

“When he comes out of contract there will be massive interest in him, no doubt about it, but Dan has got a year to run and he is 100 per-cent going to be here next season.

“I think it’s becoming old news now – any good player in any team in the country is apparently moving to France.

“When I asked Dan about it he said the first thing that he knew about it was when his dad rang him after reading it somewhere.”
