Wales Under-20 winger Iolo Evans has found himself without a club this summer but took advantage of his own availability to help London Welsh into the finals of the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s Series.

The youngster from Caernarfon was released by the Scarlets at the end of last season, the sizeable presence of George North among those blocking his path to first-team rugby with the region.

But after playing a key role in sending Welsh to finals day in Bath on August 3rd, Evans feels like he’s starting to find his best form.

“There’s nothing better than playing a bit of sevens in the summer, I enjoyed it and the boys played well,” he said.

“I’m unattached at the moment but I’ve had a few offers. One’s come from Llanelli, the club, not the Scarlets, to go back there so we’ll see. But I had an offer from Gareth Williams so I came along to play a bit of sevens.

“We had one training session the day before and one on the morning. It’s come back well, the last time I played sevens was when I was at school last year but it’s always good fun.

“I got released from the Scarlets and that’s pretty much all there was to it. They’ve got a back line with guys like George North and it’s hard to fight with guys like that for a spot. But we left on amicable terms and I would love to go back there.

I don’t know whether this was a trial I can’t really tell. I was just asked to come along. I don’t know where I’ll end up next season, anything can happen things happen so suddenly.”
