Christian Wade insists size should not be a barrier to international rugby after admitting he’s desperate to see more action with England.

The 21-year-old Wasps wing stands just 5ft 8ins but it hasn’t stopped the speedster grabbing nine tries in the Premiership already this season.

Wade was called into the England squad for last summer’s tour of South Africa and scored a hat-trick in an uncapped midweek game.

Yet that showing failed to convince Stuart Lancaster to blood him in either the autumn internationals or the recent RBS 6 Nations but Wade is refusing to give up hope.

“Having enjoyed a taste of England action on last summer’s South Africa tour, where I scored a hat-trick in a midweek game, I’m now determined to make it the whole way,” he said.

“People keep on about my size compared to the bigger boys playing Test rugby and suggest I’d struggle at international level.

“But while some bigger, heavier wings run over or through people with power, I’m a player who backs his pace and spotting openings fast.

“My ambition is to win major honours with Wasps and prove critics wrong by becoming a full international.”
