England wing Chris Ashton is beginning to find his best form following a disappointing RBS 6 Nations campaign as a result of returning to domestic action, according to Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall.

Ashton, 26, started the 2013 RBS 6 Nations in impressive fashion with his 17th try in English colours in the 38-18 victory over Scotland but failed to find the try-line in the remaining four games.

And after scoring the decisive try to help club side Saracens come from behind to beat London Wasps on Saturday, McCall believes we are starting to see Ashton back to his best.

“I thought he was absolutely brilliant. It was the Chris Ashton everybody talked about two years ago, popping up all over the place, hands on the ball, making breaks,” McCall told the Express.

“But he also defended very well. He was hungry for work and energetic, so it was great for him.

“He’s a sensitive soul and anyone in the world who is sensitive is going to be affected a little by some of the criticism he received.

“However, when he came back to Saracens he knew we won’t judge him in that way.”
