Tim Visser will miss Scotland’s upcoming autumn tests after breaking his leg but Edinburgh coach Alan Solomons has backed the flying wing to bounce back.

Visser was stretchered off in Edinburgh’s win against Treviso on Friday night with a suspected broken ankle.

But scans have since confirmed he has fractured his fibula and could be out for up to four months.

A subsequent MRI scan conducted on Monday showed further damage to his ankle ligaments and the 26-year-old may be forced into having surgery.

What is certain, though, is that Scott Johnson will be without Visser for next month’s Test series against Japan, South Africa and Australia.

And given the nature of the injury, his place in next year’s RBS 6 Nations could also be in doubt.

But Solomons insists that Visser will be back scoring tries once he has recovered from the setback.

“This is really disappointing news for Tim,” said Solomons. “We’re very sorry he’ll miss the autumn Tests.

“He’s an asset for Edinburgh and Scotland. We all wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back scoring tries again soon.”
