Chris Ashton insists he and his England teammates are aiming to sharpen up their attacking play heading into the 2014 RBS 6 Nations.

Ashton’s finest RBS 6 Nations so far came in 2011 when he crashed over for six tries – bagging a double in Wales before dotting down four times against Italy.

But the winger has only scored once in the last two tournaments though got on the scoresheet in the Red Rose’s autumn international against Argentina this November.

The 26-year-old believes his performances are still on a par with his earlier form – but concedes England must look to improve their finishing out wide.

“It’s tough against the top teams to get time and space – creating space for the outside people is something we have to get better at – but we were happy with our autumn series,” said Ashton.

“I feel I’m playing as well as I have ever been. I don’t know if I’m getting as involved in attack as I used to but I’m doing exactly the same things I did in the past.”
