Ford’s form sees him enter England reckoning

George Ford has not spoken to England boss Stuart Lancaster since the summer, but the Bath fly-half knows his form could put him in international contention.

The 20-year-old switched Leicester Tigers for The Rec this summer, having been stuck behind England’s Toby Flood in the Welford Road pecking order, and he has settled in comfortably at Bath.

Now Flood looks destined for a move to France and Ford’s form coincides with a potential vacancy in Lancaster squad.

And though he admits the upcoming RBS 6 Nations is an ambitious target, Ford has not ruled himself out of an imminent break into the England setup.

“The last time I spoke to Stuart was in the summer,” Ford told the Telegraph. “He just said I needed to go away and play games and push myself.

“That is all I have tried to do and make sure that I play as best as I can, week-in, week-out. It has been good because the forwards here have been brilliant and that makes the half-back’s life much easier.

“I feel I am in a good place but like anything you never stop learning. There are obviously parts of my game that are going all right this season and other parts where you can always improve.

“In terms of where I am, I think it is all right because I have played a run of games so I feel in a pretty good place.”
