Nick Easter insists he has not given up on his dreams of representing England again more than two years after winning his last cap for his country.

The 35-year-old has been outstanding for Harlequins in recent months, helping them into the top four in the Premiership table despite four defeats in their first six games.

Easter has 47 England caps to his name, but hasn’t been selected for the side since the 2011 World Cup quarter-final against France in Auckland.

“I feel I am good enough to be there because my form is as good as it has ever been,” Easter, who made his debut during the 2007 RBS 6 Nations, told the Telegraph.

“You have got to move on with the game and I suppose an objective factor in letting me know that would be [that] at the moment I am still hanging on to my shirt at Quins and we are still fighting in the Heineken Cup and the top four in the Premiership.

“With the amount of talent and ability we have got in the back row here at Quins, I am still hanging on to my shirt. If guys were overtaking me I might look back and ask if I had still got it.

“I am sure I would have been involved [for England], even squad appearances, in the last two years if there was serious thought going into it, but I will never give it up. You always have to have that as part of your carrot, as well as wanting to win things at club level.”
