Scotland lock Al Kellock believes his game will continue to improve after he was confirmed as Glasgow Warriors captain for a ninth consecutive year.

The 33-year-old missed this year’s RBS 6 Nations after undergoing arm surgery last December while he also missed Scotland’s summer tour after shoulder surgery.

Having skippered the Warriors on 95 occasions, Kellock holds the domestic league record for most appearances as a captain.

And the veteran forward, capped 56 times by Scotland, is in awe of the way rugby’s popularity has grown in Glasgow since he first arrived at the club.

“It’s a massive honour to have been named captain for the ninth season in a row as it’s something I enjoy enormously and feel it helps enhance my game,” he told the Glasgow Evening Times.

“There is only one thing better than joining a successful team and that is being part of it from the very beginning. The club is growing all the time and we want to go one step better this season.

“When I was growing up and playing for Allan Glens, Glasgow wasn’t a rugby city, but it’s come on enormously since then. The amount of fans we have now is incredible.

“We are an incredibly special club and I am delighted to be able to captain it once again this season.”
