Scotland have been dealt an early blow ahead of the 2015 RBS 6 Nations with the news fly-half Ruaridh Jackson has torn his anterior cruciate ligament and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old requires knee surgery after picking up the injury in Wasps’ 20-16 victory over Northampton Saints on Sunday and will be out for a period between six to nine months.

Jackson, who has won 25 caps for Scotland and featured off the bench against the USA and Canada in June, tweeted his disappointment at the news and vowed to return stronger.

And Wasps director of rugby Dai Young insists he is the best possible hands to be nurtured back to full fitness as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We are all incredibly disappointed for Ruaridh, who has made such an impact since joining Wasps this season,” Young said.

“He has impressed me during training, both with his skill level and his attitude, and it’s a real blow to lose him after he played so well in pre-season and when he came on against Northampton.

“Our medical team will be monitoring Ruaridh carefully and supporting him through this frustrating period. Professional sport is cruel at times and this is certainly one of those times.”
