The 23-year-old made his first Ireland appearance in exactly 20 months during the autumn internationals, starting on the wing in the 49-7 victory over Georgia.

That was Gilroy’s first outing since the 2013 RBS 6 Nations where he four matches before not featuring once as Ireland won this year’s Championship.

The next year promises to be as big as ever though with the 2015 RBS 6 Nations fast approaching plus the World Cup arriving on British shores in September.

And Gilroy believes spending a small amount of time together before a busy domestic festive period will be key to ensuring Ireland hit the ground running in 2015.

“It’s just a short camp but it should be very beneficial,” Gilroy, who has six Ireland caps in total, told the Belfast Telegraph.

“It’s just good to get the guys together who are in their own provinces at this time otherwise, just to refresh the brain and refresh the stuff that we did during the November series.

“It’s good to keep that going again and top up what we did that brought the success we had over the autumn. There are a lot of guys looking to put their hands up for selection.

“It’s a big year for all of us and there are a lot of games to be played so all of us really need to do our talking out on the pitch.”
