Full-back Ben Foden is being tipped by club coach Jim Mallinder to earn an England recall under new head coach Eddie Jones.

Foden fell down the pecking order for England under former boss Stuart Lancaster, with Mike Brown and Alex Goode his preferred options in the No.15 jersey.

The Northampton man has struggled for form and fitness in recent campaigns but, according to Mallinder, Foden is now reproducing consistent displays in a Saints shirt, meaning he’s capable of challenging for an England start again.

The last of Foden’s 34 international caps came in November 2013 but with new England boss Jones promising a clean sweep for all Premiership players – the 30-year-old could be back in contention for the 2016 RBS 6 Nations.

Mallinder said: “He’s always been a quality player and he’s backing up a few performances now. Hopefully he can stay fit and deliver all through the season.

“I saw him talking about England and trying to get back into that team. He just needs a few more performances like against Glasgow and hopefully the people will be looking at him.”
