Scotland lock Richie Gray believes his imminent move to French side Toulouse will help take his game to the next level.

Gray, who appeared in five World Cup games this autumn, currently plays for Castres but will move to their French rivals on a four-year deal at the end of the season.

Before that he will hope to join the Scotland squad for the 2016 RBS 6 Nations, as they look to improve on their sixth-place finish last spring.

Gray has won 52 international caps to date, becoming a mainstay of the side since making his debut against France at Murrayfield back in 2010.

But despite looking forward to the challenge offered by Toulouse, he acknowledges that it wasn’t an easy call to make the move.

“This was a very difficult decision to make, I have loved my time in Castres, the club and the supporters have made my time here very special and I will leave with very fond memories,” explained Gray.

“However the opportunity to play for one of Europe’s most successful clubs, steeped in history, is an incredible one for me.

“When I met with the club they described their ambition and I felt this was the right move for me, to challenge myself in what is a very strong squad.

“I still have seven months here at Castres, I will give everything I can to the club in hope of achieving top six and then who knows.

“My goal for now is to leave Castres on the best possible note, I will give everything I can to the club, the players and the coaches.”
