Wales could well be without back rower Dan Lydiate for their summer tour to New Zealand after he suffered an injury against England on Sunday.

The Welsh skipper limped off after 24 minutes in the 27-13 loss to England, and Warren Gatland revealed after the game that he is a major doubt for the tour.

Lydiate, who was leading Wales as he had done in the last game of the RBS 6 Nations, injured his hamstring and knee in the first half of Twickenham and will face further tests before a decision is taken.

Gatland said: “He’s struggling. He’s got a hamstring and potentially an AC injury as well. We haven’t made a decision yet, I think he’s got a process.

“The tour could already be over for him and that’s incredibly disappointing. It’s unlikely he’ll get on the plane tomorrow.

“He’s going to ice it and see if there was potentially a miracle in the next 12 hours. It doesn’t look positive.”

It was a tough afternoon for Wales who raced out of the blocks to lead 10-0 after Rob Evans’ early try.

However England fought back scoring five tries on their way to victory, and Jamie Roberts admitted that the first-half intensity was not matched in the second and Wales paid the price.

“We brought a tempo and intensity (in the first half) which we didn’t bring here in the Six Nations in the first half.

“The 12-14 point swing at the start of the second half killed us. I think they deserved the victory.

“We came out of the blocks very well and brought an intensity but we didn’t sustain it for 80 minutes.

“That’s something we’ll need to work on going up against the All Blacks who are relentless for the full match.

“There are elements which aren’t quite there but we’ve got two weeks to work on it before the first Test. There are positives in our game as well. We’re disappointed, but we know the level we’re at.”
