Victory in the second Test against Argentina secured France a drawn summer series and Guy Noves was full of praise for the improving strength in depth of his squad.

After a fifth-place finish in this year’s RBS 6 Nations, Noves’ summer tour was hampered by the fact that it clashed with the Top 14 play-offs – robbing him of numerous first-team players.

But in their place the likes of scrum-half Baptiste Serin, flanker Kevin Gourdon and Rémi Bonfils and Julien Ledevedec in the front five all caught the eye.

Les Bleus lost the first Test 30-19 to the Pumas but bounced back last Saturday to secure an impressive 27-0 win.

And Noves is confident that the future is bright for his young side as they look to build towards the 2017 RBS 6 Nations.

“We didn’t play badly in the first Test and were not as far behind as the scoreboard suggested,” he said.

“We needed to set some new goals on this tour, to find some new players in order to incorporate them into our project over the next three years so we are delighted about that.

“But we are going to keep our feet on the ground – even if we are happy with the victory. This just means we will have a nicer holiday now.

“I believe in the project, quite simply we are delighted to have seen some players confirm their potential. We came here to have a look at some players and some have really caught the eye.

“But at the top level it is a question of consistency. Players who were good or even very good over here might be poor when we come up against different opponents.

“Therefore we have to stay humble and measured. But certainly these players will be coming back with us to continue our future journey.”
