France are on the right path according to Guy Novès who has turned his attention to making a winning start to the RBS 6 Nations after a narrow loss to New Zealand.

Les Bleus created a raft of chances against the All Blacks, but little errors at crucial moments proved costly in their 24-19 loss in Paris.

It follows a two-point defeat to Australia a week ago, but Novès believes there were signs of growth from his team.

They will begin the RBS 6 Nations at Twickenham against defending champions England, and while Novès admits it’s a huge challenge, he insists the future is bright for Les Bleus.

He said: “We will have to get over this defeat before looking towards the Six Nations. We lost twice by not much, we created chances, and made ground with movement that pleased me.

“Compared to last week I felt we put in more physical intensity, but against a team which is so clinical we didn’t manage (to win), that’s our level. Their first two tries really hurt us.

“Last week I was very frustrated, this week I’m pleased with the attitude of the team and the young players. New Zealand were better than us but I don’t think they enjoyed themselves much.

“It’s obvious that we want to win as soon as possible. The next game is in England, we’ll have played the three best teams in the world in three matches.

“While we’re disappointed with the result, I feel a team is starting to grow, because it’s only been a few months that we’ve been working.

“This is a team that believes in itself, and that is using the style of play which we want, even if we were naïve at times. There will be brighter days than this.”
