Christian Wade is ready to make an impact for England in the 2017 RBS 6 Nations, according to his club boss Dai Young.

Wade was back to his scintillating best on Christmas Eve, running in a hat-trick of tries as Wasps downed Bath to complete an unbeaten 2016 at their new home of the Ricoh Arena.

The 25-year-old Wade has one England cap to his name, earned back in 2013 under Stuart Lancaster on a summer Tour to Argentina.

He was then called up as injury cover to the British & Irish Lions Tour in Australia but has failed to add to his international honours since then as form and fitness have evaded him.

But the speedster is back firing on all cylinders and should be in Eddie Jones’ thinking for the defence of their 2016 Grand Slam – according to Young.

“I’ve said for a while that there are not many better finishers than Christian,” Young said.

“There have been questions over the years about his defence, not actually missing tackles but making the right decisions – when to stay in, when to come out, when to be slightly wider, when to come up and when to stay back and so on.

“I think he has worked on that over the last couple of seasons and has demonstrated that he is capable of defending on an international stage.

“He has been capable of scoring on the international stage for a long time and that was an amazing try for us.

“He’s shown season after season that if you put the ball in his hands that something is going to happen.”
