Scotland winger Sean Maitland is relishing the opportunity of lining up against his international colleague Tommy Seymour when Saracens take on Glasgow Warriors in the European Champions Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.

The European Champions are hosting a Warriors side packed with Maitland’s Scotland teammates and a number of others who he used to line up alongside in his time at Glasgow.

Maitland and Seymour started in two of Scotland’s 2017 RBS 6 Nations fixtures in the back three together but will do battle for a place in the last four of the Champions Cup.

And the New Zealand-born Scotland international believes the game will be a high intensity one with silverware, Lions places, and personal pride all up for grabs.   “When you get to this stage of the season and it’s a big game there are always going to be these Lions match-ups all over the place,” said Maitland.   “I’m sure the boys won’t be worrying about that sort of stuff, but if I make the team hopefully I’ll be up against my good mate Tommy, which should be a lot of fun.   “Tommy’s not like that, but there are other guys who might take the mickey, and if Tommy skipped around me the worst abuse would be from my own teammates.   “You might have seen the game at the weekend when we chucked the ball around more than people are used to seeing us do. I’m sure the Glasgow team are going to come down with an attacking mindset.”
