Mark Wilson continued his impressive autumn form with a last-gasp try to help Newcastle Falcons down Northampton Saints.

The England back-row forward started all four games this autumn for the Red Rose and was crowned their player of the series.

And he returned to club duty this weekend for the Falcons, lining up at blindside flanker and scoring the winning try as they downed Northampton Saints.

Wilson’s versatility in the back row – he started three of England’s four games at No.8 – will keep him in Eddie Jones’ thoughts as the 2019 Six Nations approaches.

The back rower has never before appeared in Rugby’s Greatest Championship but on this evidence will be firmly in contention come February.

His winning try spoiled a big day for Saints and England co-captain Dylan Hartley on his 250th appearance for the club.

It was better news for Hartley’s rival for England’s No.2 shirt Jamie George who scored a try as Saracens continued their unbeaten start to the league with victory over Wasps.

Nick Isiekwe also dotted down as he continued his recovery from injury while Alex Lozowski was flawless from the kicking tee in the absence of the rested Owen Farrell.

Meanwhile, Manu Tuilagi crossed for Leicester Tigers but they slipped to a heavy defeat to Bristol while Gloucester got back to winning ways against Worcester.

And in the Guinness PRO14, Ireland scrum-half John Cooney was the match-winner for Ulster against the Cardiff Blues while the Irish province also saw Rory Best and Jacob Stockdale impress off the bench.

While Jonathan Davies crossed for a try for the Scarlets but they slipped to defeat to Glasgow Warriors as Scotland centre Nick Grigg continued his impressive return to form and fitness.
