Wales’ Gareth Anscombe maintained his superb form ahead of the Guinness Six Nations with a 19-point haul as Cardiff Blues secured a convincing win away at Scarlets.

The fly-half, who is battling with Dan Biggar for a starting spot in the upcoming Championship, booted four conversions, two penalties and scored a late try in the 34-5 win.

Anscombe was influential from start to finish as he put his first points on the board within three minutes with a penalty, while he was a threat with ball in hand all afternoon.

The Blues led 10-5 at the break, with Anscombe converting Lloyd Williams’ tenth-minute try, before the away side cut loose in the second half.

Rey Lee-Lo grabbed two tries, both of which Anscombe converted, before the fly-half intercepted a loose pass of his own late on and strolled in for a deserved try.

Anscombe excelled but the man-of-the-match award went to Josh Turnbull, who featured on the summer tour to Argentina.

The flanker was superb against his former club and finished with 21 tackles and a crucial turnover inside Scarlets territory.

For the hosts, scrum-half Gareth Davies made 99 metres with the ball, while centre Jonathan Davies beat three defenders.
