Fabien Sanconnie has been called up by Jacques Brunel to France’s 2019 Guinness Six Nations squad in place of his injured teammate Bernard Le Roux.

Le Roux was injured for Racing 92 on European duty this weekend, damaging his posterior cruciate ligament in their victory over Scarlets.

The versatile Le Roux – equally capable in the second row and back row – would have been a useful squad addition for Brunel as they prepare for their Championship opener against Wales on Friday February 1.

But his Racing 92 teammate Sanconnie has earned a re-call in his stead – his last Test appearance for Les Bleus came on last summer’s tour of New Zealand.

The 23-year-old made his debut in the 2017 Championship under Brunel’s predecessor Guy Novès, starting clashes with both Italy and Wales in the back row.
