Scotland centre Huw Jones looks set to miss the rest of the 2019 Guinness Six Nations after it was revealed he has sustained knee ligament damage.

The Glasgow Warriors No.13 appeared to injure himself near the end of his side’s narrow loss to Ireland in Round Two of the 2019 Championship.

And while the midfielder, 25, stayed on until the finish of the 22-13 defeat, his participation in the final three rounds starting with Paris next weekend looks in real doubt.

An SRU statement said: “Scan results suggest the injury recovery time would likely be beyond the reaches of the current campaign.”

The news comes as a blow to Gregor Townsend as Jones has been a near ever-present in the No.13 shirt for his country, with ten tries in 21 Tests.

Scotland are still assessing the shoulder injury suffered by Stuart Hogg in that same game.

A scan revealed that the British & Irish Lion, twice a Guinness Six Nations Player of the Championship, has damaged shoulder ligaments.

Hogg is now ‘under the joint care of the Glasgow Warriors and Scotland medical teams, with his rehabilitation progress and review ongoing’, continued the statement.
