Eddie Jones asked Joe Cokanasiga to get some game time and prove his fitness and the winger did just that in a try-scoring outing for Bath against Newcastle.

With a week to go before the crucial Guinness Six Nations clash between England and Wales in Cardiff, Jones had released a selection of players to feature domestically, including Cokanasiga.

The winger, who made his debut for England in November, has not yet featured in the Championship.

However he could come into contention for the clash with Wales – a battle between the two remaining unbeaten sides.

And he did his cause no harm on Saturday with a fine finish on the left as Bath won 30-13 at the Rec.

Cokanasiga explained afterwards that Jones had been keen to see the 20-year-old get a few more minutes under his belt after a knee injury had kept him on the sidelines since December.

He said: “Towards the end I was a bit blowing but I feel really confident in my knee now.

“Eddie just spoke to me about getting some game time and being ready for selection for Wales.

“I’m happy I’ve got this game time, it gives me a lot of confidence.”
