Northampton Saints director of rugby Chris Boyd expects Dan Biggar to be fit to feature in Wales’ Guinness Six Nations showdown with England.
Fly-half Biggar shone early on in Northampton’s thumping 67-17 Premiership Rugby victory over Sale Sharks on Saturday with two conversions and a penalty but limped off with his knee strapped inside 20 minutes.
However, Boyd has allayed fears that the 29-year-old is set for a spell on the sidelines.
Asked if Biggar would be fit for Wales’ Round Three clash with England in Cardiff next Saturday, the Saints boss said: “I’d think so. I’m not a medical man but I can’t see any reason why he can’t be.”
Biggar featured for 55 minutes of Wales 26-15 triumph over Italy at the Stadio Olimpico in Round Two.
Boyd explained that his early departure from Saturday’s game, however, was merely precautionary.
“He came back from Italy with a really low-grade MCL strain in the knee and was keen to play,” said the Northampton chief.
“He trained really well on Thursday and felt really comfortable but he just caught it again and that was precautionary.
“We decided in the best interests of his health and safety to remove him.
“He probably could have played on but I thought George (Furbank) did a good job in his space when he came off.
“I’m no medical man but I would be surprised if Dan isn’t fine to train with Wales this week.”
