Duncan Weir headlines six Scotland call-ups as they prepare for their Guinness Six Nations round three clash with France on Saturday.

The fly-half last appeared for his country in the 2017 Championship but after Finn Russell was ruled out with a head injury sustained on club duty for Racing 92 last weekend, the Worcester Warrior is called up to cover the No.10 jersey.

Weir is joined by Edinburgh trio Magnus Bradbury, Dougie Fife and James Johnstone in getting the call-up as the Scots aim to end a 20-year losing run in Paris.

Bradbury has recently returned from injury but will come straight into the battle for the back-row positions against Les Bleus, while Fife will be in contention in the back-three in the absence of Stuart Hogg.

A Scottish statement said: “Hogg will not join the squad in the camp this week as he is not being considered for this Saturday’s game against France, following the shoulder injury he sustained against Ireland in the second round of the Championship at BT Murrayfield.

Johnstone is a midfield replacement for the injured Stafford McDowall but there is better injury news for other Glasgow Warriors as front-rowers Zander Fagerson and George Turner are both back fit.

The duo both came through unscathed in their club returns last weekend as the Warriors beat Cardiff Blues in the Guinness PRO14.

Gregor Townsend’s selection of the duo means that Edinburgh’s David Cherry and Murray McCallum, as well as Leicester’s Jake Kerr, all return to their clubs this week.
