Owen Farrell insists the 2019 Guinness Six Nations has still not seen the best of England yet.
Farrell leads his side to Principality Stadium this evening to take on Wales and the Red Rose are flying high at the moment.
Two bonus-point wins from two over Ireland and France have them top of the table and dreaming of a second Grand Slam of the Eddie Jones era.
But, on the eve of the Cardiff clash, Farrell insists there is plenty left in the tank for England in this year’s Championship.
“I think we’re evolving,” said the 27-year-old. “I don’t think we’re anywhere near where we want to be either.
“Everybody has talked about our kicking game but the kicking game is only effective if the space is there, and the space is only there if you’re a threat with ball in hand.
“At the minute we’re making good decisions and that is what rugby is about where we’ve got to continue making good decisions, we can’t just think that one way is going to work for us.”
Farrell is flourishing at fly-half inside a new centre pairing of Manu Tuilagi and Henry Slade.
The trio had never before started a game together for England before this Championship but the influence of Tuilagi has been clear to see on a backline that have scored every England try in this year’s Championship – minus the penalty try in Le Crunch.
“Manu is someone who you look at before you go out to a game and see the big massive smile on his face knowing that he’s going to go out there and be unbelievably physical,” he added.
“It makes you excited to go out there and play with him.”
The last five Tests have also seen England score a try inside the first five minutes, and the fly-half wants a similarly fast start today against Wales.
“I thought emotionally we’ve been spot on and that’s not just by chance, that’s because the lads have built it up in the right way and made sure they’re firing at whatever time kick-off is.”
