The votes are in and it’s official, Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones has been chosen as the 2019 Guiness Six Nations Player of the Championship.

The man who led Wales to a Grand Slam – the third time he has achieved that feat in his illustrious career – was a near unanimous choice.

And the great and the good of social media are queuing up to hail the Ospreys lock for his magnificent achievement.

It all began with the announcement this morning…

And the man himself was fully appreciative of his award – beating other five other men on the shortlist to claim the trophy.

Another Welsh forward who won the award, back in 2005, was quick to praise his compatriot.

Welsh rugby journalist Simon Thomas was also sure that the right man had topped the pile.

Jones’ region, the Ospreys, were next to hail their leader.

While, in a show of real respect for a rival, the Ireland team also chipped in with congratulations.

Commentator, and former England fly-half Stuart Barnes also called the decision a no-brainer.

And the Welsh Rugby Union, amidst their Grand Slam celebrations, celebrated their favourite son.

And rugby journalist Paul Williams also singled out Jones’ contribution for special praise.

While England’s second-place in the Championship table did not leave them too sore as they congratulated the lock for his exploits.

And clearly maths whizz Carol Vorderman is huge fan of the Wales captain – for his off-field exploits as much as on the pitch

While the Championship’s title sponsors also wanted to share their congratulations.
