Three of England’s stand-out stars in the 2019 Guinness Six Nations have been nominated by their teammates for the player of the year award.
Jonny May, Tom Curry and Mark Wilson all enjoyed impressive campaigns for England as they ended up second in the 2019 Championship behind Grand Slam winners Wales.
The award is presented to the outstanding England men’s player the 2018-19 season, as voted by the England Elite Playing Squad.
The winner will be announced at the 2019 RPA awards on 8 May.
May scored six tries during the Championship to finish as the 2019 Guinness Six Nations top try scorer.
Curry and Wilson were both appearing in their first-ever Championships for England but dovetailed to impressive effect throughout.
The duo tackled everything that moved, particularly in the famous win in Dublin on the opening weekend and Curry also chipped in with two tries.
Sale Sharks flanker Curry said he was “honoured” with the nomination, adding: “I must thank them for their huge support. It’s been an incredible experience playing for England so far.
Leicester Tigers wing May added: “To be nominated by my England teammates is a huge honour and one I am extremely grateful for. There’s no better feeling than to have the recognition and support of my peers, and I am excited about the opportunity that lies ahead for our squad later this year.”
And Newcastle Falcons back-row forward Wilson said: “It’s very flattering to be recognised in this way by my England peers. It’s been a great year and it’s an enormous privilege to represent my country, my club, my family and everyone who has supported me so far.
“I look forward to continue playing my part and contributing to our success going forward.”
The three women nominated for the England’s women’s equivalent award are prop Sarah Bern, fly-half Katy Daley-Mclean and full-back Sarah McKenna after the Red Roses secured the Grand Slam.
