The 2020 Women’s Six Nations is ready for lift off after captains and coaches headed to London on Wednesday for the official launch.

The first game of the 2020 Championship is just ten days away – when Ireland host Scotland, Italy travel to Wales and France meet England in a monumental clash in Pau – but before that, the world’s rugby media headed to Tobacco Dock to quiz the stars.

It is set to be a spring of new beginnings with Philip Doyle taking over as Scotland head coach and Rachel Malcolm donning the captain’s armband, Chris Horsman stepping in for Rowland Phillips as Wales boss, while Elisa Giordano is deputising for the injured Manuela Furlan as Italy captain.

England will be looking to defend the Grand Slam they won so impressively 12 months ago but each of the other five nations will be eager to cut down the Red Roses.

The 2020 Championship will also see the introduction of a Women’s Six Nations Player of the Championship, supported by Guinness, who are proud to re-affirm their support of women’s rugby and the Women’s Six Nations.

And Ben Morel, CEO of Six Nations Rugby, is eager to see the Championship go from strength to strength in 2020.

“I’m really excited for the Women’s Six Nations,” he said. “In my role as CEO, I am seeing first-hand how strong a spectacle the Six Nations is becoming, as well as the outstanding level of skill and talent on display.

“The women’s game is something I’m extremely passionate about and one of my priorities is to continue to support the growth in the years ahead.”

Mark Sandys – Global Head of Beer for Diageo – says that Guinness are proud to be a partner of the Women’s Six Nations once again and is excited to see the addition of the Player of the Championship award.

Sandys explained: “This year for first time, there will be a Women’s Player of the Championship award and this represents the impact and growth of the women’s game in recent years.

“It’s an exciting time and we at Guinness are proud to be involved once more.”
