Wayne Pivac has urged his Wales team to go and “win that thing again” as they look to defend their Guinness Six Nations title.
Twelve months ago, Wales surged to a brilliant Grand Slam – their third of the Warren Gatland era – as they swept all before them.
But it’s all change at Principality Stadium, with Gatland leaving his role as head coach and being replaced by ex-Scarlets chief Wayne Pivac.
It’s quite the legacy for Pivac to follow but as his tells his team in the WRU’s new behind-the-scenes series Gwlad Gwlad, the fresh start gives everyone an opportunity to prove themselves.
“Our very, very simple goals fellas,” Pivac tells his assembled squad during a fascinating speech. “Is that we’re here to win the Championship – this fantastic trophy here.
“It’s a different coaching group to 2019 and some players from last year’s campaign aren’t here for various reasons, while there are some new boys as well.
“For us, it’s a fresh start and for me, we’re going to go and out and win it all over again. That has got to be our attitude from day one.
“It’s about rolling our sleeves up from today, to go out there and win that thing again.”
That revelation comes in the first episode of the WRU’s video series Gwlad Gwlad, a behind-the-scenes look inside the Wales camp.
It gives a unique insight into the squad’s preparations for the 2020 Guinness Six Nations under a new coaching team, headed up by Pivac.
Wales start their title defence on Saturday in Cardiff against Italy, while France and Scotland also visit Principality Stadium during the course of the Championship, with trips to Dublin and Twickenham their two away games.
