Stuart Hogg admits the challenge awaiting Scotland in the 2020 Guinness Six Nations is exactly why he started playing rugby in the first place.
The 27-year-old will skipper his country in this year’s Championship after succeeding Stuart McInally, who stepped down from the role following Scotland’s disappoint Rugby World Cup.
Hogg has previously only captained his country once before – in a defeat to the USA in 2018 – but he is the most experienced member of Gregor Townsend’s 38-man squad with 72 caps.
And Hogg appears intent on grabbing his opportunity with both hands, insisting that Scotland are determined to improve on last year’s sole Championship victory as they finished fifth.
“The Guinness Six Nations is so special because you get to play against some of the best international teams in the world,” said Hogg, at the 2020 Guinness Six Nations official launch.
“You get to play against the likes of Ireland, England, Wales France, Italy. Unbelievable teams with world class talent across every single team.
“It is a challenge for us, it is exactly why you picked up a ball as a kid and us as a nation, we are very much looking forward to it.”
