Guinness Six Nations Player of the Match Courtney Lawes reiterated England’s desire to be “the best team the world has ever seen” after defeating Ireland to secure back-to-back wins.
Eddie Jones’ team blew Ireland away with a dominant first-half blitz and ran out comfortable 24-12 winners at Twickenham.
The victory kept England’s Guinness Six Nations hopes alive, as well as the Triple Crown, which could be won against Wales in Round 4.
But Lawes, who was celebrating his 31st birthday, says the long-term aim for the side is to be the greatest side of all time.
“We just want to keep building. The goal is to be the best team in the world, and the best team the world has ever seen,” said Lawes.
“We are striving for that and we put the effort in every day.”
Tries from George Ford, Elliot Daly and Luke Cowan-Dickie ensured a comfortable victory for England in the end, with Owen Farrell successfully slotting all four of his kicks at post.
Lawes put in an all-round destructive effort, responsible for eight carries, 37 metres made and 14 tackles in his hour-long performance.
“We knew Ireland were in good form and we love laying in front of our fans at Twickenham,” added Lawes
“We came out flying and put an emphasis on that all week. It’s great to be out there with the boys.
“Any chance I get to put on the shirt, especially at my old age, I relish it and I was really happy to be out there.”
